Sanctitatea Voastră,

Am aflat cu tristețe de trecerea din această viață, în ziua de 2 februarie 2023, la praznicul Întâmpinării Domnului, a Înaltpreasfințitului Părinte Ioan, Mitropolit de Pergam, un vechi prieten al Bisericii noastre și al nostru personal, un promotor neobosit al unității şi comuniunii interortodoxe și al valorilor Ortodoxiei în dialogul intercreştin.

Ne aducem aminte de Înaltpreasfinția Sa ca de un ierarh erudit și o personalitate academică ­deosebită, profesor de teologie dogmatică ortodoxă, în special, în domeniul eclesiologiei și în cel al teologiei persoanei.

În aceste momente de întristare, adresăm Sanctității Voastre și Sfintei Biserici a Constantinopolului gândurile noastre fraterne de consolare și ne rugăm Domnului Iisus Hristos, Cel înviat din morți, să dăruiască sufletului fratelui nostru ierarh Ioan odihnă în pacea, lumina şi iubirea Preasfintei Treimi!

Pomenirea lui să fie veşnică din neam în neam!

Cu înaltă stimă și frățească dragoste în Hristos Domnul,

With sadness, we have learned of the passing from this world, today, the 2^nd of February 2023, at the feast of the Meeting of our Lord God and Saviour Jesus Christ in the Temple, of His Eminence Metropolitan John of Pergamon, an old friend of our Church and of ours, personally, and a tireless promoter of inter-Orthodox unity and communion and of the Orthodox values in the inter-Christian dialogue.

We remember him as the erudite hierarch and an outstanding academic personality, professor of Dogmatic Theology, in particular, in the realm of ecclesiology and that of the theology of the person.

In this time of sadness, we address to Your Holiness and to the Holy Church of Constantinople our fraternal thoughts of consolation and pray the Lord Jesus Christ, Who has risen from the dead, to give to the soul of our brother hierarch John rest in the peace, light and love of the Most Holy Trinity!

May his memory be eternal from generation to generation!
